A good and extremely straightforward to any southern or creole meal.
Cornbread
Ingredients
- 3/4 c flour
- 3/4 c corn meal
- 1 T baking powder
- 2 T sugar
- 1 t salt
- 1 c milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c shortening
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400˚.
- In large mixing bowl combine dry ingredients.
- Add shortening to 8 inch cast-iron pan and place in oven.
- In small bowl, beat egg, then add milk.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients.
- When shortening is melted, remove from oven and pour batter into pan. Mix slightly to incorporate some of the shortening.
- Bake for roughly 15 minutes or until golden brown.
