Cornbread

A good and extremely straightforward to any southern or creole meal.

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 c flour
  • 3/4 c corn meal
  • 1 T baking powder
  • 2 T sugar
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 c milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c shortening

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400˚.
  • In large mixing bowl combine dry ingredients.
  • Add shortening to 8 inch cast-iron pan and place in oven.
  • In small bowl, beat egg, then add milk.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  • When shortening is melted, remove from oven and pour batter into pan. Mix slightly to incorporate some of the shortening.
  • Bake for roughly 15 minutes or until golden brown.
