This is another recipe that I learned from my dad. These can easily take less than half an hour to make, and are a good supplement to any breakfast, plus they stay good for 3-4 days after you make them.
Drop Biscuits and Gravy
Ingredients
- 2 c flour
- 1 T baking powder kosher salt, sugar
- 3/4 c whole milk
- 1/4 c shortening/butter
Gravy
- 1 pound ground sausage
- 1/4 c flour
- 2 c whole milk
- Salt and pepper
- 2 bay leaves optional
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400˚.
- Combine all flour and baking powder in a large bowl. Cut in butter and shortening, then add milk. Mix to thoroughly combine, but don’t overmix – it will toughen up the dough.
- Use a spoon to drop biscuits onto cookie sheet or baking pan.
- Cook for roughly 20 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick or fork comes out with crumbs.
Gravy
- In large skillet over medium heat, break up sausage. Brown, and remove cooked sausage. Pour off the majority of fat, leaving roughly 2 tablespoons.
- Stir flour into fat and cook for roughly 3 minutes. Turn off heat and add milk slowly. Return to medium-high heat and stir occasionally while gravy thickens, 2-3 minutes.
- Add sausage back in, season with salt, pepper, and 2 bay leaves.
